This past Saturday my handsome husband (gotta get those in whenever I can) and his friend Matt Smith went on a deep sea fishing trip. Joshua was so excited to go on this trip, he had been talking about it ever since Matt had invited him to go, so for about two weeks! He was excited and I was nervous! All I had heard about trips such as these were horror stories, you know, I got SO sick, I threw up everywhere the whole time, someone caught a venomous sea snake and if it would have bit him we would have had to call the coast guard! Can you understand my concern?!
But anyway, Josh was determined to go, so he got his fishing bag all ready and he left Saturday morning at 4am for the big 'ole blue! (And I wish I had a cute little photo of him, or him and his friend here to show you, but hey they are guys, and that is weird.) So they made their way down to the coast and sailed out, went about 40 miles off the coast and dropped their lines, praying that they would catch the BIG one! They fished all day long and caught many fish, but sadly were beat out by a ten year old girl on the big fish of the day! (insert chuckle here!) The girl caught a pretty big grouper so I'm told! Again, wish I had a picture to insert, but Josh just said he was covered in fish. Likely story...;) When they finally arrived home- around 6:30- Joshua and Matt had to clean all the fish, so Joshua got to our house somewhere around 8, with a bag full of cleaned and scaled fish! Below are pictures of the different fish they caught...(I had to make up for pictures somewhere!)
Red Snapper
Trigger Fish
Ringtail
Sand Bass
Grunt
And Shark...haha yeah, right...
more like this! (and he didnt keep the shark - threw it back!) And if you think any of the above pictures are from their trip, you are gravely mistaken, that's right, not even pictures of the fish they caught! I was not a happy camper, I need pictures people!
So anyway, we decided the Red Snapper would be our Sunday lunch so I went out and bought seafood breader, and hushpuppy mix so we could have a great fish fry!
We tried Lake Side breader and Sweet Betsy hush puppy mix, both from Walmart! The breader was AMAZING, the hush puppy mix was pretty good too, but I have had better.
Josh prepared the fish, he soaked it in buttermilk for a couple minutes, then coated it in the Lake Side Seafood breader and fried it until golden brown in a pot of oil at 350 degrees.
Now, I am NOT a fish person! I like other kinds of seafood - shrimp, scallops, crab, lobster, even squid, but for some reason fish is not one of my favs. Too fishy in taste maybe?! But Josh made a believer out of me yesterday, it was DELICIOUS! I ate one and a half pieces!
Along with some pretty good hush puppies too! It was definitely a successful fish fry! Even Cadence loved it!
We enjoyed it so much, AND we even have more fish to cook! Might even be tonight's supper! SO have you ever been deep sea fishing? Do you have an amazing fish tail? Would love to hear it!
